Football as a Tool for Equality and Inclusion – HER SPORT trainings and tournaments in primary schools of Cyprus
Sport has the power to inspire and bring people together. Yet, beyond the goals and the games, stereotypes and gender disparities remain deeply rooted in the world of sports. HER SPORT is an initiative that seeks to change this reality, using football as a powerful tool to promote inclusivity and gender equality.
At its heart, HER SPORT is about more than just playing football. It’s about creating opportunities where boys and girls can learn, train, and compete together. Where they can build mutual respect and understanding through shared experiences. By bringing young people into the same space, the project dismantles outdated stereotypes and replaces them with teamwork, trust, and equality.
In Cyprus, RESET has taken this vision into classrooms and football pitches across the island.
With tailored trainings delivered to 140 teachers, and football coaching sessions supported by Apollon Ladies, the project has reached both urban and rural schools. The highlight was a series of mixed-gender tournaments that brought together 250 students from three schools. A celebration of sport, inclusion, and the spirit of fair play.
Beyond the Field: Stories that Inspire Change
HER SPORT goes beyond the matches. Through a testimonial video, teachers and female players shared their voices and experiences, shedding light on the importance of gender equality in sports. Their stories show that change happens not only on the field, but also in the way young people see themselves and each other.
