The U-Care project addresses climate change impact on urban areas across different climate zones and cities.

Its objective is to enhance urban health across European cities based on urban health research, neighbourhood diagnostics, and participatory decision making. The research is carried out using the UrbanCare three-phase methodology through case studies in four European cities. At each site, walkability, urban heat, surface runoff, biotope loss, and users’ needs are examined to identify spatial inequities.

The project is working towards developing climate-specific learning modules tailored to diverse urban contexts and an urban health spatial planning and design platform for HEIs.

The project targets educators and students in HEIs, urban planners, architects, public health experts, policy makers and local governments.

Results

The key outcome of U-CARE is developing students’ skills in various sustainable development sectors through innovative training and capacity building tailored for the requirements of the future green labor market. The expected results are 1) five learning modules and materials, 2) the U-CARE Web Platform, 3) five open databases with environmental and anonymized outdoor user data, 4) 20 urban health site reports, 5) four local urban health strategic action plans, 6) four scientific articles
